Los Angeles, CA -Alex Day and David Kaplan have been busy working with their clients all summer. Flying under the radar for the last few months, both men have been traveling the world working on Proprietors LLC projects and quickly building a solid international name and presence for their company. Many have been asking what’s next for Death & Co Owner, David Kaplan and his business partner Alex Day, known originally as individual leaders in the hospitality industry have now gone public with their partnership and brainchild platform that has been incubating and building for the last few years. Famous for the incredibly successful Death & Company, a nightlife destination in New York City, Bar & Kitchen’s most recent build into success in Los Angeles, as well as a host of other projects worldwide, their company Proprietors announced this week the opening of their official west coast headquarters in Downtown LA’s Arts District. Proprietors drives brands and reinforces their unique methodologies, strategies and approach to hospitality.
Through design, development, and operations, Proprietors was created to deliver a unique skill set to the hospitality industry. Established in 2007, the studio is currently working with clients both large and small, in the US and overseas, and executing projects across multiple disciplines. The team brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to every new project, while offering a scope of capabilities that includes bar and underbar design, interior design and architecture, graphic identities, brand and product development, and food and beverage programming. Proprietors currently carries an impressive roster of existing clients and projects, as well as projects slated to open in the new year.
In addition to announcing their west coast digs, Proprietors launches Chapter & Verse: the test bar. Located within their headquarters space, the test bar is the consolidation of the company's creative vision and hub for all beverage development, design, and administration both within the Proprietors consulting portfolio, as well as for the bars and restaurants owned and operated by the company and managing partners. Chapter & Verse functions as a development lab, design collective, training space, and office, but above all, it is a facility dedicated to evangelizing the gospel of quality drinking – in spirits, beer, wine, coffee, tea, and water. Chapter & Verse was designed by Patry+Kline with construction and finishings by Lotus Builders.
Chapter & Verse launches with the support of brand partners including Pernod Ricard USA, Karlsson’s Vodka, Infinium Spirits, Combier, Frederick Wildman & Sons.
"In keeping with Pernod Ricard's commitment to trade education and the evolution of extraordinary cocktails, we are delighted to align with the talent of Proprietors, LLC," said Suzanne Freedman, Director of On-Premise at Pernod Ricard USA. "With their new dedicated drink lab, Alex and Dave are sure to create a new industry standard in bar and cocktail consulting".
